It's interesting that she speaks English with an American accent rather than a Russian one. I know that she lives in Florida now, but I'm still surprised that her Russian accent has completely disappeared.

She has been speaking the language for 9 year's now. If she still had the accent; then you should be suprised, and plus she had to work on it because of her endorsement's.

Thanks, I didn't know she'd been speaking English for nine years. But even still, not only does she speak with an American accent (not a Russian one or even a British one), she also uses American idioms and speaking patterns (e.g. lots of "you know", "uh", "um", etc).
Given the way she talks, acts, and where she lives, she seems more American than Russian these days. lol (It wouldn't surprise me if she followed Navratilova's and Seles's example in changing to US citizenship eventually.)

Well, I just found out that she's been living in the US since age 7, which explains why she's so American-ized.
(I didn't become a fan of her until recently (didn't pay all that much attention to her before), so her background is still rather new to me. ;) )

I think what he means is that hes interested that she put the effort into loosing the Russian accent. By your logic, the Govn'r of California should have a perfect US accent, especially bearing in mind that speaking plays a large role in his career(s).

Yeah she's been in the U.S. since she was 7, so not too surprising she sounds like an American. She does speak Russian with her parents, but Russians claim she speaks their language with an American accent.

Actually, she has a very slight Russian accent, but it is mild. It shows in some of her vowel sounds. I think she takes quite a bit of heat among Russians for not being as involved as she could be in some of the team Russian events. I very much doubt she would change to US citizenship.
