about Dylan and lyrics: he is a modern type of PATTER song-writer: a patter song being one "in which a very large number of words have to be sung at high speed to fit them to the music." (definition from Wiki)This STYLE is also the origin of his off-beat lyrics, as he needs a lot of rhyme words (English is poor in rhymes, compared to romance languages). The crazy voice may sound weird today, but it was positively revolutionary in the 1960's--forcing us to look beyond the surface. Great stuff!

dylan is all about capturing the tradition of live performance of american folk music (woodie guthrie, black street performers), so the rough edge is part of the music's ambience and appeal. it sound's 'real' and this was refreshing if you go back and listen to popular music into the 1960's-perry como and just awful stuff, with huge string sections and canyons of fake reverb.

A great voice is personal in my opinion. I don't think you are speaking about a great voice but more of a voice that can get very high and stay in tune.I think Bob Dylan has a great voice because i really like the sound of it. If a person becomes as famous as Bob Dylan you have alot of fans and with a unusual voice like his its unavoidable that some people dont like it

I don't think people get what a "bad voice" is. A bad voice means you can't reach as many notes vocally as most people. I guarantee you Dylan can hit more notes than majority of people that criticize him.

I must admit it took me awhile to get into dylan, but man i love his voice. Not so much anymore, but his voice back in the day was amazing it has a unique sound of its own.
