There are so many interpretations on this movie. Prot could have been an angel. Prot could also have been the modern day Jesus Christ since he was able to cure people in the institute. He was always ahead of everybody's game.

There is mostly no regard to this film when the main actors(Bridges and Kevin Spacey) are being asked about great films they did. its a shame, because this is one of the most beautiful films. that emphasize how little appreciation we have to our fellow men. and to life. This indeed is amazing film. Prot was an outer space person :)

A very wonderful combination given that Jeff Bridges played STARMAN many years earlier.

Yeah, I feel Porter was human and had been in contact with Prot (an alien) for awhile. I believe Prot's form was energy of some sort that lived in mutual harmony with Porter from time to time. However, this tragic event happend and Prot once again entered Porter to save him, to find Bridges so he could get help for what I believe is severe PTSD with catatonia due to the trauma Porter expeienced. Remember Prot told Bridges "now that you found RP, take care of him" or something like that.
