Actually, POLKA (GENERALLY!) came from today's Czech republic. It was born in society of universitie, where were lots of foreigners...and, of course, Polish as well. So, it was named after Poles, the students who were often dancing it - but while they were on czech land (BUT it was part of Austrian empire that time, that was a very multicultural place). It is possible, that it was firstly written by German, Czech, Frenchman, Pole, Englishman...anyone.
But is THIS really important? :)
