Ciprian Porumbescu was a Romanian composer born in
Şipotele Sucevei in the former Austrian province of Bukovina. He was born into the family of Iraclie Porumbescu an ethnic Romanian writer and Orthodox priest. He studied music in Suceava and Cernăuţi, then continued at the Konservatorium für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna, under Anton Br
uckner and Franz Krenn. He was among the most celebrated Romanian composers of his time; his most popular works are the pieces Crai nou, Trei culori, Song for the 1st of May, Ballad for violin and piano, Serenada. In addition, he composed the music for Pe-al nostru steag e scris Unire. He was impris
oned by the Austrian authorities because of his political activities, and composed his major works while in confinement. He died at the age of 29 in Stupca, nowadays renamed Ciprian Porumbescu.

It is so wonderful. The images recreate "Plaiul Mioritic" perfectly, in complete accord with the music. What a piece of art. I just keep playing over and over again and cannot stop it. Why are all your ratings disabled?

Now I am 43, but in my childhood my father played me Balada from a vinyl single play edited. It was the version for violin and piano, indeed. My father along with my violin teacher also tried to organize the sheet music for me. Since then I have not listened to this underappreciated masterpiece up to now. Thanks a lot!!!

Romania din sufletul lui Porumbescu e un vis care a murit demult, la fel ca si spiritul romanesc de atunci. La fel cum ascultam noi acum, el scria pentru o imagine a Romaniei care "va fi". Daca ar trai azi, probabil ca ar rescrie-o, si mai trista..

When is more or Porumbescu's music going to be recorded??? It's ashame that he's been neglected - along with his compatriot Ivanovici - for so long. There HAD to be more Romanian composers at work during the 19th century. WHY are they not heard???????

Ciprian Porumbescu is indeed the composer of the Ballad.
The violonist could be Ion Voicu, Stefan Ruha or other romanian violonist
